The Official Poker Etiquette

The etiquette of playing poker is important to maintaining a positive atmosphere. This applies whether you’re playing in a casino or at home.

For instance, it’s a good idea to make sure that you do not berate or disturb other players in the hand. If you notice that your opponent is breaking a rule, you can take action.

It’s a good idea to learn the different betting rounds. There’s an ante, which is the amount of money posted before the start of the hand by all players. Often, the ante is raised at predetermined intervals.

You can take money out of the pot to make side bets. Some poker clients allow you to mute specific opponents.

Among other things, you can show your cards. The cards must be above the table.

Taking chips out of the pot can be a bad idea. If you do, you’re not only breaking a rule, but you’re also hurting your opponent’s psyche.

If you’re worried about the etiquette of your opponents, you can try to mute their chat box. Many clients offer this feature.

You can also use your bad beats to your advantage. However, be careful not to abuse your opponent, or destroy their cards.

Finally, beware of ghosting. If you leave the room too frequently, your chips may be surrendered.

Another etiquette you should keep in mind is that of the playover. A playover is a clear plastic box that covers the chips of a player who has left the room.
