Official Poker Rules

Poker rulebooks are widely used and freely copied. A rulebook can include rules from other cardrooms but must give credit where appropriate. The goal is to create the best possible set of rules for poker that is widely accepted worldwide. Official poker rules are not the same as those of any other cardroom. They should be similar to each other, but may differ slightly. If you’re looking for a rulebook to use in your own establishment, you’ve come to the right place.

The official poker rules are managed by the professional Tournament Directors Association (Poker TDA). The PDA was formed in 2001 by four professional poker players. It now has over 2,500 members in 63 countries, including managers of large live poker rooms, tournament circuits, and independent poker games. The association meets twice a year for a summit to review the rules. Poker pros such as WSOP Tournament Director Jack Effel sit on its board.

The rules are not always followed in a poker tournament. There are certain situations in which players must make exceptions. These irregularities are rarely seen but can significantly affect the game’s outcome. One of the most important poker strategies is protecting your hands. Using chips or other objects to protect your hands is important, but if you fail to do so, you’re out of luck. Fortunately, there’s a way to make sure that you don’t have to face a legal battle.
